Welcome to Snack Chat, a place where I wax poetic about the candy, chips and other nosh-worthy delights I discover during my weekly grocery store mosey.
Fret not, this isn’t a farewell issue, I didn’t get canceled after one season on Netflix, and there is still so much more snackin’ and chattin’ to come this year. Yes, I skipped out on posting last month but it was for good reasons! I just got back in town after going on a road trip to New Mexico where I was treated to a number of local tidbits that I’m fixin’ to get my hands back on so I can share the wealth.
Also in recent news: Portlanders have been bestowed with a brand new flavor of Honey Mama’s (it’s so good), an Oregon-local kombucha that isn't Brew Dr. has stolen my heart, and a new-ish pickle chip has come to take the title of Best Pickle Chip Ever from poor Tim’s briny mitts. There truly is an embarrassment of riches to be had in the snacking world right now.
So why do I got the morbs? Well, I’m finally at the age where instead of pining over olde lovers of yore I’m now sitting at my desk furiously researching whether or not some of my favorite snack foods have been discontinued. Outlook: NOT GREAT! And since I’m still being crushed by the weight of everything I put off before hitting the road for 10 days, I’m rolling out this month’s super stuffed issue in the style of Folu’s Unsnackable with some of the late greats that I want, but cannot have.
